Back in Action
Hello all! It's been awhile, but I'm back at it with a new game brought about by my deep love of the Jekyll & Hyde musical, and other gothic musicals, which I thought would make the perfect game for the One-Page RPG Jam 2022. It's a one-page, 2 player, alternating GM game about a brilliant creator and their monstrous other self.
I had a lot of fun creating mechanics that served that battle of duality within humanity that is so often a core premise of these type of musicals, especially, obviously Jekyll & Hyde. The inner battles of morality made external and literal has always been such a good gothic trait, so I was eager to explore that here with the Restraint and Ferocity traits. Being able to move your stat values, I think also leans into that battle. You may think yourself an upright person, but give into your ferocity to achieve your goals. Or what about when a ferocious monster acts with more restraint than a person? Things like that I felt a ttrpg were just perfect for exploring and emulating.
There's a few elements of gothic musical theatre that I really love and wanted to include, but unfortunately were cut for space and a more streamlined game, like the shared loved interest between the "light" side lead and the "dark" side lead, and the third party narrator element, who usually starts and ends the show but is not the main character. And I hope to someday come back to this and release like a little dlc for lack of a better term, incorporating those two elements, because I really liked what I had and was sorry to see them go.
But hopefully you enjoy and have fun with it. If you played it, I'd love to see a comment about how your battle of humanity turned out! Which side won out? Or did neither??? Let me know, share the link, and thanks for your support!
